Harry Potter and the Homemade Bookcase.
My interest in wanting to create my own bookcase came from working at a bookstore. We had a display of Harry Potter books and memorabilia, including the “ultimate and exclusive book box-set” in a treasure box form for the price of $159.99. I had an awesome employee discount but the company was asking waaaaaaaaay too much and for the folks that actually bought the cheap cardboard treasure box are suckers and bought into the hype. Plus it didn’t include The Tales of the Beedle and the Bard! Can you say died in a car crash?! It’s an outrage. A scandal. Anyways, I’m over it and my personal bookcase ”exclusive” includes The Tales of Beetle and the Bard.
The overall design I wanted to achieve for this particular bookcase was the actual novels itself. It would’ve been easy to strip magazine/newspaper clippings of the film but instead I bought the paperback version of the Sorceror’s Stone at a thrift shop, ripped the book apart, painted the pages with acrylic paint, and scissored the pages into a more formal design. (By the way ripping the book apart felt like ripping pages out of the Bible and yes, I thought I was going to get struck by lightning but it was for a good cause so I wasn’t too worried about it..)
